Ladies Special bus

Arjun, or Anjali as he was known on his secret commutes, adjusted the pallu of the emerald green synthetic silk sari. The fabric, crisp and unforgiving, felt like a banner of defiance against his nerves. He checked his reflection one last time in the cracked mirror above the sink: the subtle eyeliner, the careful shading along the jawline, the two bangles stacked high on his slender wrist. Everything was perfect, yet precarious. Today was the day he would try the Ladies Special bus—a route notorious for its overcrowding, but also its efficiency. It was the ultimate test.

Stepping out onto the street, the morning air was already thick with diesel fumes and the impatient honking of horns. The tension was immediate; he felt every eye graze him, convinced they saw the tell-tale breadth of his shoulders beneath the tailored blouse, or the slight stiffness in his walk that betrayed decades of male conditioning. But no one paused. No one looked twice. The first wave of thrill, sharp and electric, washed over him: He was passing.

When the bright pink Ladies Special bus, designated clearly with 'KEVAL MAHILAA' (Women Only) in bold letters, shuddered to a halt, a surge of women—students, professionals, and homemakers—pushed toward the door. This was the moment. The close physical proximity meant the risk of detection was exponentially higher, but the safety of being swallowed by the crowd was also greater. Anjali took a deep breath, mimicking the casual, assertive way the other women moved, and allowed the flow to sweep her inside.

The conductor, a stout woman with a loud voice and an intimidatingly efficient manner, barely glanced up as she collected his fare. "To Mahalaxmi," Anjali managed, his voice pitched slightly higher, slightly softer. The conductor nodded and handed him the ticket. Relief, pure and liquid, soaked through him.

He found a small, contested space near a window, clinging to the overhead railing. The bus was a symphony of feminine energy: the rustle of cotton, the clatter of tiffin boxes, the low, rapid-fire gossip in various dialects. He was surrounded, cocooned, in a space built exclusively for the feminine experience, a space he had only observed from the outside his entire life.

The thrill was no longer fear, but a profound, almost dizzying sense of belonging. Every bump in the road, every shared exasperated glance with the woman next to him when the driver braked too suddenly, affirmed his reality in that moment. It wasn't just the clothes; it was the shared air, the collective identity. For the twenty minutes of the journey, he wasn't Arjun, living a life of performance; he was Anjali, just another commuter, moving through the world seamlessly, freely. The danger of being exposed—the heavy, delicious weight of the secret—only amplified the elation of the successful performance.

When his stop arrived, the relief of safety was mixed with a pang of loss. He knew he would have to re-enter the general world, shedding the protective bubble of the Ladies Special. But as he stepped down, catching sight of the familiar emerald green of his sari against the grey pavement, he carried the thrill with him—a powerful, quiet victory that belonged only to Anjali.

This is not going to be the last time - 2

I am Rohan, the elder brother of Suman. She, did not do well in the exams. She was scared to tell this to our parents and she asked me to come to school as the mother. I took the help of my friend Riya and dressed up in saree like this as Roshni. I somehow, made people believe that I am a girl. I spoke to her class teacher Sanjay. He was very much impressed by me and he was undressing me from top to bottom. I was blushing and he was noticing that. I somehow, saved my sister from getting humiliated, but understood that this is not going to be the last time of dressing.

The Colors of the Heart

The city of Mumbai, a living, breathing mosaic of chaos and beauty, never slept. Its streets hummed with a ceaseless energy—rickshaws honking, vendors shouting their wares, and people walking in all directions like rivers in flood. Amidst this storm of life, Arjun stood on the crowded bus platform, feeling his heart race.

Today, unlike the many days before, he wasn't dressed in his usual attire—a plain shirt and jeans. No, today, Arjun had slipped into something different. Something that felt both alien and exhilarating. A deep maroon saree, intricately woven with golden thread, draped gracefully over his body. His long hair, once kept tucked under a cap or tucked into a short ponytail, flowed down his back in soft waves. He’d perfected his makeup to create a flawless, delicate look—blush on his cheeks, kohl-lined eyes, and lips painted in a shade of red that seemed to promise both mystery and allure.

Arjun had always felt a certain freedom in dressing as a woman. It wasn’t about hiding; it was about expressing the parts of himself that no one knew existed. His parents, his friends, they all saw him as the quiet, unassuming son who followed the rules. But when he dressed in women’s clothing, something inside him blossomed. He felt connected to a part of his identity that had been waiting to emerge.

The bus arrived with a screech, and the doors opened with a hiss. Arjun stepped in, clutching the strap of his handbag. His eyes scanned the bus for a seat. The usual crowd of office-goers and students stood or sat, their faces buried in their phones or lost in thought.

As his eyes roamed over the sea of passengers, he caught sight of him—a man sitting by the window, wearing a simple white kurta. His hair was slightly messy, as if he’d been up all night, but there was an undeniable warmth to his smile. His eyes, dark and sincere, met Arjun's for a brief moment, and then quickly moved away, as if unsure of whether the fleeting glance had been noticed.

Arjun’s heart skipped a beat. He quickly looked down, feeling the heat rise in his cheeks. It wasn’t the first time someone had looked at him like that, but this time, something felt different. There was an energy between them—an unspoken connection that seemed to pull Arjun toward him, even though they were miles apart in the crowded bus.

He slowly made his way toward the only available seat next to the man in the white kurta. The bus jolted forward, and Arjun was momentarily thrown off balance. Instinctively, the man reached out, grabbing his arm to steady him.

“Careful,” he said in a soft voice, his hand lingering just a moment too long on Arjun’s wrist.

Arjun’s breath caught in his throat. “Thank you,” he murmured, not trusting his voice to be steady. He sat down beside him, their shoulders brushing lightly as the bus rumbled along.

The man, who was now looking at Arjun with a curious smile, spoke again. “You look… different today,” he said, his tone warm, but not intrusive. “A special occasion?”

Arjun felt a pang of nervousness. Was it that obvious? Did he see through the carefully constructed layers of makeup and saree? He hesitated, then decided to be honest. “I like to… change things up sometimes.”

There was a long pause, but the man didn't push. Instead, he smiled. “It suits you. You’ve got a certain… grace about you.” His words hung in the air between them, like a delicate note in a song that lingered long after the music had ended.

Arjun smiled shyly, grateful for the kindness in his voice. They sat in comfortable silence for a while, the sound of the bus and the chatter of the passengers fading into the background. It was only when they reached the next stop that the man spoke again.

“I'm Sahil,” he said, extending his hand, his fingers long and delicate. “I don’t think we’ve met before.”

Arjun hesitated only for a second before shaking his hand. “Arjun,” he said softly, his heart fluttering in his chest.

Sahil’s eyes sparkled with genuine interest. “What brings you to this side of town, Arjun?”

It was a question that seemed simple, but it felt like an invitation to share. Arjun glanced at the people around them, but none of them seemed to be paying attention. The anonymity of the bus, the hum of the city outside—it felt like they were in a bubble, just the two of them.

“I work nearby,” Arjun said, then added with a quiet laugh, “I don’t usually take the bus, but today felt like a good day for a change.”

Sahil smiled. “I like that. It’s good to mix things up once in a while. Keeps life interesting.”

Arjun smiled back, feeling the warmth of the moment. There was something about Sahil—something about the way he spoke, the way his eyes lingered a little too long—something that made Arjun feel seen, in a way that no one else had before.

As the bus continued its journey, the two of them talked more—about work, about the city, about dreams that felt far away. But the conversation between them never felt forced, never awkward. It flowed naturally, like a river that found its own course. For once, Arjun didn’t feel like he had to hide parts of himself. He could talk freely, knowing that Sahil didn’t judge him for his appearance.

The bus finally came to a stop at Arjun’s destination. As he stood to leave, he turned to Sahil, suddenly reluctant to let the moment slip away.

“It was nice talking to you,” Arjun said, his voice soft but sincere. “I’ll… I’ll see you around?”

Sahil smiled, that same warmth lighting up his face. “I hope so,” he said, his voice carrying a hint of something deeper, something unspoken. “Take care, Arjun.”

As Arjun stepped off the bus and into the bustling street, he felt something stir inside him—a flutter, a hope. It wasn’t just the thrill of wearing a saree, or the fleeting attention he had received. It was something else, something rare and precious. He hadn’t just met someone today. He’d met someone who saw him—not the costume, not the facade—but the person he truly was.

And that was enough to make him believe in the beauty of unexpected connections.

Feeling Shy

Credits : Anandhi

There were people who came to our house to get my sister married to their son. My mom was helping my sister to get ready. I went inside, my mom teased me by saying that, if you have such a long hair, then the groom and his parents, may think that you are girl too and may stop this alliance. Please wear this saree, I will comb your hair in a proper manner. You please behave like a girl and younger sister of your sister. I obeyed them instantly and wore saree, wore ear rings, anklets, bangles.

Mom and sister were very happy and Groom and his family was greeted by my sister with coffee and snacks. They liked my sister and  groom's mom kept Jasmine flowers on her head. It  means that they are very happy and accepted the girl for marriage.  She kept Jasmine flowers on my head. She told that, we like your second daughter as well and they want to arrange marriage for her to their second son, who is settled in Malaysia. My mom told them that, she is just studying. They told they will wait for few years for me to complete education. First, let us get the marriage of first son and daughter going on. I blused and it was really a feminine moment.

Mom's Advice

Credits : Anandhi Girly CD stories

Even though, I roam outside as a man wearing shirt and pant, as soon as I return home, my mom wants me to change to Saree. I ask her, why is she insisting me to wear saree like a women, she tells that for the body shape and size of yours chudidar, half saree and saree are the dress that suits you properly. Pant and shirt looks horrible on you. I asked her, why is she keeping flowers on my head.

It makes me feel feminine when you keep flowers on my head, I am a man only na, I asked her.  You have grown long hair, which is even longer than normal women. I told her that, I am doing it as it is the current fashion and trend. My Mom instantly repeated that, if you wear saree, even if you are a guy or girl, it is our tradition to keep flower on your head.

You can remove however you want to the outside world, but in our city and house, you have to follow our customs and traditions, stating this, my mom kept jasmine flowers on my head.
