Broken Bangle

Yesterday, I enjoyed a lot in dressing. But, the happiness lasted for very few minutes. Unfortunately, I broke the Bangle of my wife, which you could see on my hands. But, thanks to fevi kwik, it stuck back and it is back to normal.

The Woman that blossomed within a Man - The End

Amuthan: Then, turning to Ramya, he said, "I have a surprise for you," and took her to Anita's house. There, her mother, Tulasi, and her younger sister, Anita, were waiting.

Ramya: Upon seeing her mother, she shed tears of joy and happiness.

Tulasi: "Anita told me everything about you. Whether you are a man or a woman, you are my child nonetheless; from now on, I will never let you shed a tear," she said, embracing her tightly. Shortly thereafter, Janani, Ajay, and Krishnavathi arrived.

Tulasi: "Ramya, we are going to arrange your 'First Night' ceremony right here in our home today," she announced.

Ramya: Blushing deeply, she lowered her head in shyness. Later that evening, Janani and Anita worked together to prepare Ramya for her wedding night. They draped her in a white silk saree, styled her hair, and adorned it with an abundance of jasmine flowers; finally, they applied her makeup.

Krishnavathi and Tulasi approached, placed a vessel of milk in Ramya's hands, and sent her on her way. Janani and Anita then escorted Ramya to the bedroom.

Ramya: Upon entering the room, she first prostrated herself at Amuthan's feet to seek his blessings, and then offered him the vessel of milk.

Amuthan: He drank half of the milk and handed the remainder to Ramya. Then, looking at her affectionately, he asked, "My dear Ramya, shall we begin?"

Ramya: Yielding to his desire, she lay down on the bed. Amuthan climbed onto her, embraced her tightly, and kissed her on the lips. He then gently unwrapped her saree, showering kisses all over her body. Finally, he caressed her breasts and passionately made love to her with his manhood.

Ramya: She moaned softly as she experienced the intense, bittersweet pleasure of womanhood.

Amuthan: Afterward, he held her close in his arms and drifted off to sleep.

Ramya: When she woke up the next morning, she found herself still cradled in Amuthan's arms. She then rose, took a refreshing head-bath, and returned to the room.

Janani and Anita: Looking at her playfully, they asked, "So, dear Ramya, did our brother take good care of you last night?"

Ramya: Her face flushed crimson, and she lowered her head in bashfulness. She bowed her head.

Janani offered words of comfort, assuring her, "Very well; from now on, your life will be free of any hardships."

Ramya embraced her womanhood and lived happily as Amuthan's wife.

The Woman that blossomed within a Man - 13

Janani: So, is that why you bought all these things?

Amuthan: No, Akka. I won't touch her until she has fully recovered.

Ajay: Then why did you buy them?

Amuthan: I really love seeing her with her hair full of flowers—that’s all," he said. Soon, they arrived at the house, and all three went inside.

Ramya: "Welcome, everyone. Go freshen up and come back," she said, and then served soup to the three of them.

Janani: "This is really good! I want a healthy drink like this every evening."

Amuthan: He stretched out his arms and legs, shaking off his lethargy.

Ramya: She walked over, massaged his shoulders, and then massaged his feet.

Amuthan: "Ramya dear, here—these are for you, some jasmine flowers."

Ramya: "You put them in my hair yourself."

Krishnavathi: "What is this? Is he not your lawfully wedded husband? Why are you speaking to him with such disrespect?"

Amuthan: "Mother, I was the one who told her to address me that way."

Krishnavathi: "Very well. Ramya, come with me," she said, leading her away. "All the sarees in this wardrobe are yours from now on; you may pick and wear whichever ones you like. Keep this jewelry box as well; wear whichever pieces of jewelry appeal to you," she said, handing them over.

Janani: "We need to visit the temple tomorrow. Everyone, be ready by 6:00 AM tomorrow morning," she announced.

The next morning, after waking up and bathing, Krishnavathi, Janani, and Ramya—the three women—dressed in silk sarees, styled their hair, adorned it with flowers, and got ready.

Ajay and Amuthan arrived, dressed in traditional silk *veshtis* and shirts. They then took the car, drove to the Tirupati temple, and offered their prayers (*darshan*). Afterward, Krishnavathi and Ramya both went to the restroom area.

Janani: "Hey, where is that Moorthy? I don't see him anywhere."

Amuthan: "Just wait a moment, Akka; he’ll be here." Just then, Moorthy arrived with his henchmen.

Moorthy: Looking at Krishnavathi, he said, "Greetings, Mother. How are you doing?" Then, glancing at Ramya who was standing nearby, he asked, "Well, Jilu—how are *you* doing these days?" "I sent you away thinking you wouldn't survive. Yet, look at you—you’ve returned looking so radiant!" he sneered, revealing his hideous, menacing face.

Ramya: Trembling with fear, she clutched Krishnavathi’s hand tightly.

Moorthy: "Alright then, shall I take my leave?" he asked, and walked into the temple.

Ramya: "Auntie, let's leave before he comes back," she urged.

Krishnavathi: "Okay, wait—let me just use the restroom," she replied and went inside. When she returned, Ramya was nowhere to be found. She immediately called Amuthan and explained what had happened.

Amuthan, Janani, and Ajay searched the entire temple grounds, but Ramya was nowhere to be seen.

Moorthy: At his bungalow, he sat sipping whiskey. Kneeling before him—her hands and mouth bound—was Ramya. "Well, well... how are you doing? Once I saw you again, I just couldn't control myself. That’s why I simply snatched you up and brought you here," he said, untying the bonds on her hands and mouth.

Ramya: "Please... let me go!"

Moorthy: He delivered a resounding slap across her face. "What is this? Getting a bit too chatty, aren't we? You are my female slave! Just shut up, come with me, and get into bed."

Ramya: "I am married; I have a husband! I cannot betray him. If he finds you, he will kill you without hesitation!"

Moorthy: "What? Are you trying to threaten me? No one dares to cross the threshold of my domain. Come along quietly, or else I’ll make you the shared wife of ten of my henchmen. Which option do you prefer?"

Ramya: Terrified, she rose and began to follow Moorthy. Just then, the police burst through the door. At gunpoint, they arrested everyone present. Moments later, Amuthan, Ajay, and Janani arrived.

Moorthy: "How did you find this place?"

Amuthan: "Well... Ramya's *Thali*..." He held up the chain he was wearing, revealing a small microphone attached to it.

Amuthan: "Moorthy, I knew full well that the moment you saw Ramya, you would abduct her and take her back to your hideout. That is precisely why I rigged this microphone. It transmits everything you say—as well as your exact location—directly to the police control room."

Janani: "Moorthy, for the betrayal you inflicted upon our family, you will spend the rest of your life behind bars." With that, the police arrested everyone involved and took them into custody.

Amuthan: "Ramya... did you get really scared?"

Ramya: "For a moment there, my heart completely stopped beating," she said, throwing her arms around him and weeping.

The Women that blossomed within a Man - 12

Krishnavathi: Alright, so when are we going?

Ajay: The day after tomorrow; that is when Moorthy will be visiting the temple.

Amuthan: Okay, Mom. We’re going to bed now; the journey has left us feeling quite tired.

Krishnavathi: Very well, go on. Janani, you stay back for a moment.

Janani: What is it, Mom?

Krishnavathi: They are married now, but has the consummation ceremony—the "First Night"—taken place yet?

Janani: Not yet, Mom. Ramya has just started her menstrual cycle. We can only make arrangements for the First Night once that has passed and she has fully recovered her strength. Now, you go and get some sleep, Mom. —Saying this, she took her leave.

Amuthan: Ramya dear, did you understand what Mom said? We are going to Tirupati the day after tomorrow.

Ramya: I understood, dear. But whenever Tirupati is mentioned, my mind immediately drifts back to that massive bungalow and the horrors I endured there.

Amuthan: That is exactly why I am right here with you, isn't it? You have absolutely nothing to fear.

Ramya: Okay then... May I hold your hand, lean my head against your shoulder, and fall asleep now? Please?

Amuthan: Of course, dear. Go ahead and lie down.

Ramya: "Thank you," she whispered, and holding onto his hand, she drifted off to sleep.

Amuthan: He gazed down at her—his precious Ramya. She trembled like a chick caught in a snare; then, exhausted, she fell asleep. Subsequently, Amuthan also drifted off to sleep.

Ramya: In the morning, she woke up, took a bath, and—tying the end of her saree across her mouth—went to the kitchen. She prepared coffee, then took it and served it to Janani and Ajay, after which she served it to Krishnavathi.

Krishnavathi: "Did you give any to Amuthan, Ramya?"

Ramya: "No, Aunt."

Krishnavathi: "Alright, go give some to him," she said, sending her off.

Ramya: "Amuthan, wake up! It's getting late; don't you have to go to the office?"

Amuthan: Amuthan opened his eyes, got up, and accepted the coffee.

Ramya: Next, she went to the kitchen, prepared breakfast, and served it to everyone.

Krishnavathi: "Amuthan, you truly are a lucky man! To find a wife like this... even Janani wouldn't do household chores like this."

Janani: "What is this, Mom? The moment your new daughter-in-law arrives, are you already finding fault with me?"

Krishnavathi: "Well, what else am I supposed to say? You're always dressed in churidars or jeans and tops, running around like a man, constantly preoccupied with the office and business matters. But look at Ramya: she wakes up in the morning, takes a bath, and—like a traditional, dutiful woman—wears a saree. She doesn't let me lift a finger; instead, she takes it upon herself to handle every single household chore."

Ramya: "Aunt, please don't find fault with Janani." "If it weren't for her, I wouldn't have reached this position. Please don't worry; from now on, I will take full responsibility for this household. Let the three of them handle the business." With that, Amuthan, Janani, and Ajay set off for the office.

Ramya: "Wait a moment! There’s lunch packed in this carry bag; please make sure you eat."

Amuthan: "My dear Ramya, is there anything else you’d like to say?"

Ramya: (Suddenly remembering something) "Oh, sorry!" She planted a kiss on his cheek and whispered, "I love you." Then, the three of them got into the car and drove away.

Janani: "Mom was right, Amuthan. In this day and age, if a woman still listens to her husband and obeys his wishes without ever going against him, you truly are a lucky man." Later that evening, the three of them returned from the office in the car.

Amuthan: "Ajay, pull the car over to the side," he instructed. He got out, went to a shop, and returned with some flowers and *Halwa*.

Ajay: "Did you buy some for us as well?"

Amuthan: "Here you go, Uncle," he said, handing it to him.

Janani: "Has Ramya's menstrual cycle ended?"

Amuthan: "It ended today, Akka."

Janani: "Then why didn't you tell me?"

Amuthan: "She only called me this afternoon to let me know."

The Woman that Blossomed within a Man - 11

Krishnavathi: Janani, isn't this the mentally unstable woman who used to work at our bungalow in Kodaikanal?

Janani: Yes, Mom. But she has recovered quite a bit now. Our Amuthan took pity on her and gave her a new lease on life. By the way, where did you find her before bringing her to work at the Kodaikanal bungalow?

Krishnavathi: I went to the Tirupati temple once, and there I ran into your father's business partner, Moorthy. I hadn't gone to offer my condolences when his son and wife passed away, so I approached him to express my sympathy and offer some words of comfort.

Krishnavathi: Afterward, he invited me back to his bungalow in Tirupati to have a meal before I left. That is where I first saw her.

Janani: I see. So, how did you end up bringing her to Kodaikanal?

Krishnavathi: Moorthy told me, "This girl suffers from a mental illness, but she is capable of doing household chores. If you wish, you can take her back to your home to work." Since we were in need of domestic help at our Kodaikanal bungalow, I took her along and assigned her to work under Parvathi there.

Janani: So, Dad's heart attack—was it triggered by Ram running off with our money?

Krishnavathi: Yes, it was.

Janani: And how did that Moorthy's wife pass away?

Krishnavathi: Their son was killed during some sort of altercation. Unable to bear the grief of losing her son, his mother passed away as well.

Janani: Mom, the woman you brought back with you is none other than Ram—my ex-boyfriend who ran off with all our money!

Krishnavathi: What did you just say?! [Speaking]

Janani: Yes, Mother. He had gone to invest his money in the stock market. It was there that Moorthy and his son picked a fight with Ram. In the ensuing altercation—specifically when Ram struck him—Moorthy's son died. Driven by that rage, Moorthy abducted Ram, turned him into gold, subjected him to torture, drove him insane, and then abandoned him back with you.

Krishnavathi: Oh my! So, that Moorthy is the root cause of all these troubles? Very well; I need to see Ramya. Tell her to come here.

Janani: [She brings Ramya in.]

Krishnavathi: Ram, do you recognize me?

Ramya: I don't recognize you, Aunt.

Krishnavathi: [To Janani] What is this? Why is she speaking like that?

Janani: Yes, Mother. Due to the atrocities Moorthy inflicted upon her, her mental stability was compromised, and she has lost all memory of the past. However, thanks to the treatment provided by her younger sister, she is slowly but surely recovering.

Krishnavathi: In that case, what needs to be done for her to make a full recovery?

Janani: If she were to see that Moorthy again, all her past memories would return, and she would be completely cured.

Krishnavathi: But would that Moorthy simply leave her alone?

Ajay and Amuthan: We are right here with her. Moorthy may be allowed to *look* at Ramya, but beyond that—we won't let even his little finger touch her.

The Woman that Blossomed within a Man - 10

Janani: Alright, wake him up and tell him to come eat.

Ramya: Amuthan, wake up! "Come and eat, man."

Janani: "What on earth? Is he really calling you so casually—using such informal terms?"

Ramya: "Well, *he's* the one who told me to call him that way."

Janani: "Fair enough! You’ve certainly got your husband wrapped around your little finger just a short while after getting married. Good for you! Now, go ahead and ask him exactly what he likes, and then conduct yourself accordingly; that’s the only way he’ll keep doting on you and following you around."

Ramya: "Alright, Janani." Later, after Amuthan woke up, the five of them sat down and ate together.

Ajay: "Amuthan," he said, "why don't you feed Ramya a little bit while you eat?"

Following his suggestion, Amuthan and Ramya began feeding each other as they ate.

That night, as they lay in bed, Ramya asked, "Amuthan, in what way would you like me to be—what kind of wife would you love the most?"

Amuthan: "As my wife—my 'Ramya-kutty,' as I’ll always call you—I want you to always wear a saree with your hair adorned with plenty of jasmine flowers. And every night in bed, you must take good care of me."

"When I leave for work, you should give me a kiss and say, 'I love you.'"

Ramya: "Alright, my love. Once my monthly cycle is over, I’ll be exactly the way you described. You can savor that image, show me your masculinity, and fully enjoy my femininity."

Amuthan: "Okay, Ramya-kutty. Let's get some sleep now." He switched off the light, and the two of them drifted off to sleep.

The next morning, after packing all their luggage, Amuthan, Ramya, Janani, Ajay, and Anita—the five of them—bid farewell to Parvathi and set off on their journey.

Ramya: "Wait a minute, Amuthan," she said. She then fell at Parvathi’s feet to seek her blessings. "I’m leaving now, Akka. For as long as I stayed here, you looked after me just like your own daughter."

Parvathi: "Don't mention it, Ramya! No matter where you are, you will always be my daughter." She blessed her, saying, "May you remain a *Sumangali*—a woman blessed with a long married life—forever adorned with the auspicious symbols of turmeric and vermilion." Then, saying, "Wait just a moment," she retrieved a long strand of jasmine flowers from the fridge, placed them in Ramya’s hair, and sent her off with the words, "Go now, and have a safe journey!" Afterward, the group hailed a taxi, traveled to the railway station, and took a train back to Chennai.

Anita: "Janani..." "I’ll take an auto-rickshaw home; please look after Ramya Akka safely."

Janani replied, "She is the daughter-in-law of our house; we will take care of her. You go ahead," and sent him on his way. Then, she called Krishnavathi and said, "Mom, we have arrived in Chennai and will be home very soon. We are bringing a friend along with us; please arrange for an *Aarti* ceremony for her."

Krishnavathi replied, "Alright, Janani."

Subsequently, the four of them hailed a taxi and headed home. At the entrance, their mother, Krishnavathi, stood waiting with the *Aarti* platter.

Looking at Ramya, Krishnavathi asked, "How did she end up here?"

Amuthan replied, "Mom, we can discuss all that later. I have married her. First, please perform the *Aarti* for both of us and welcome us inside."

With a look of shock, Krishnavathi performed the *Aarti* for both of them, applied *kumkum* to their foreheads, and ushered them inside; she then stepped out, poured the *Aarti* water onto the street, and returned.

The Woman that Blossomed within a Man - 9

Anita: "Amuthan, she has just attained puberty; her menstrual cycle hasn't ended yet. Please don't disturb her for a few days."

Amuthan: "Alright, Anita."

Ramya: She started heading back toward the kitchen.

Janani: "Ramya, where do you think you're going? From now on, Amuthan's room is your room. Go with him," she said, sending her off.

Ramya: Blushing and filled with a mix of shyness and fear, she followed Amuthan into his room.

Amuthan: "Come in, Ramya. Come over here and sit on the bed."

Ramya: "No, it's alright. I'll just sit on the floor."

Amuthan: "Look here—you are my wife; you have every right to be my equal. Furthermore, I don't like this formal way of addressing me. I want you to call me affectionately—lovingly calling me 'my darling husband' in a sweet, familiar tone."

Ramya: "Oh no! If your sister finds out, she'll kill me!"

Amuthan: "Don't worry about my sister; I'll handle her. Come on, call me that right now—let's hear it."

Ramya: "Move over a little... *my darling husband*."

Amuthan: "Alright then. Come and sit right next to me," he said, shifting over to make room.

Ramya: She sat down right beside him.

Amuthan: "How are you feeling now? Is your stomach pain any better?"

Ramya: "It's not too bad now. Since I'm using a sanitary pad, the pain has subsided a bit. Can I lie down on your lap for a little while?"

Amuthan: "Sure, go ahead and lie down," he replied. Soon after, overcome by exhaustion, he drifted off to sleep as well.

Janani: She came in to check on them, then gently woke Ramya up.

Ramya: Looking at Janani, she said, "Oh no! I'm so sorry, *Anni* (Sister-in-law)."

Janani: "Just call me 'Janani'—the way you usually do. And *I'm* sorry—I hit you this morning out of anger. For a woman, her *Thali* (wedding knot) is everything; this society respects us only as long as that knot remains around our neck. Otherwise, they will view us as nothing more than a harlot." Did you understand?

Ramya: I understood, Janani.

Janani: Alright. How is your menstrual pain now?

Ramya: It’s not too bad, Janani.

Janani: Tomorrow, we’ll leave from here and head to my house in the evening.

Ramya: Okay, Janani.

Janani: Have you ever met my mother here?

Ramya: I don’t recall, Janani.

Janani: It was actually her who brought you here and instructed us to hire Parvathi to look after you.

Ramya: Is that so? I don’t remember any of that.

Janani: Anyway, let me know once your period is over. We need to make arrangements for your and Amudhan’s "First Night" at our home.

Ramya: Is that really necessary?

Janani: Well, what else? How long do you intend to keep your husband starving? Don’t be afraid; he won’t force you to do anything against your will. He will simply reveal his masculinity to you and, in doing so, awaken the femininity that lies within you.

The Women that Blossomed within a Man - 8

Janani: Amuthan, tomorrow—as soon as the ritual of pouring turmeric water over Ramya is complete—you must tie the *Thali* around her neck.

Amuthan: Akka, she is terrified just at the sight of men! How could she possibly agree to marry me and build a life together?

Anita: What you say is correct; she certainly won't consent to the marriage willingly. You will have to tie the *Thali* around her neck by force. Afterward, if you conduct yourself as a decent, honorable man toward her, the notion that "all men are bad" will gradually fade from her mind. Then, drawing strength from the knowledge that she has a male companion by her side, she will slowly but surely recover from the trauma of her past life.

Janani: Anita is right. You must do this—for my sake.

Amuthan: Alright, Akka.

The next morning...

Parvathi: "Ramya, wake up! It's getting late," she called out, rousing her.

Ramya: She woke up.

Parvathi: "Take off all your clothes; just pull this petticoat up over your chest and tie it there," she instructed, handing it to her.

Ramya tied it as instructed.

Parvathi: She led Ramya to the bathroom, where Janani and Anita were already waiting. Parvathi then seated Ramya on a wooden stool, and the three of them worked together to rub turmeric paste all over Ramya's body before pouring the turmeric water over her. Afterward, they helped her tie a fresh petticoat and led her back inside.

Parvathi: She fetched a needle, held Ramya's ear, and began to pierce it.

Ramya: "Akka, don't! It hurts!"

Parvathi: Ignoring her pleas, she pierced a hole in each of Ramya's ears, and then pierced a hole on the left side of her nose.

Janani and Anita then stepped forward and inserted earrings into her ears and a nose ring into her nose. Next, they dressed her in a new bra and panties, tied a petticoat around her waist, put a yellow blouse on her, and draped a yellow silk saree with a green border around her.

Anita: She smoothed down Ramya's hair, detangled it, combed it out, and braided it into a loose single plait that reached down to her buttocks. She then adorned it with six cubits of jasmine flowers, two cubits of Kanakambaram flowers, and a single rose.

Janani: She applied heavy makeup to Ramya's face, then adorned her wrists with green glass bangles—finishing the stack with a gold bangle—and placed silver anklets on her feet. She fastened a necklace and a long chain around her neck, then led her into the living room and seated her on a chair. Janani, Anita, Parvathi, Ajay, and Amuthan gathered around and performed the ceremonial rituals.

Janani: "Ramya, come with me to the prayer altar," she said, leading her away. There, Amuthan stood dressed in a silk dhoti and shirt, holding a *Thali* (sacred wedding knot) in his hands.

Ramya: Realizing what was about to happen, she pleaded, "Please, no! I cannot bear to be with a man anymore."

Janani: "Ramya, try to understand what I'm saying. We cannot leave you all alone any longer. You have blossomed into a complete woman; you need a male companion."

Ramya: "No, I don't want that! I will simply stay here and live as a servant," she insisted, reaching out to knock the *Thali* from Amuthan's hands. She swung her hand.

Janani: "Ramya, I just gave you a resounding slap across the cheek! Have you lost your mind? If that Moorthy finds out about you, comes back here, and abducts you again, what will become of your life? If you marry Amuthan, you can live safely—as his wife and as a daughter-in-law in our home."

Ramya: She clutched her cheek and wept.

Janani: "Amuthan," she said, "tie the *Thali* around her neck."

Amuthan: He picked up the *Thali* that lay on the ground and approached her. As Anita lifted Ramya's braid, Amuthan placed the *Thali* around her neck and tied the first knot. Then, Janani stepped forward and tied the remaining two knots. Finally, Amuthan applied vermilion to the parting of Ramya's hair and placed toe rings on her feet.

Amuthan: Next, he had Janani and Ajay stand side-by-side; then, together with Ramya, he prostrated at their feet and sought their blessings.

The Women That Blossomed within a Man - 7

Ramya: Parvathi Akka, what exactly is happening to me here?

Parvathi: We are going to perform the *Manjal Neerattu Vizha* (Yellow Water Ceremony) for you tomorrow, dear. You have come of age; you have attained womanhood.

Ramya: And what happens after that?

Parvathi: Your breasts will grow larger than they are now; your waist will narrow, and your uterus will develop. That is precisely why you experienced menstruation and the associated bleeding.

Ramya: And then what happens?

Parvathi: What else? Once we arrange for you to marry a young man, a child will be conceived through his sperm.

Ramya: Oh no! I don't want to get married at all, Akka. I’m terrified just by the sight of men. Back when they kept me drugged and sedated, many men would touch and molest me in places they shouldn't have. Sometimes, they would even burn me with cigarettes. And that fellow, Moorthy—he would force himself on me once every week.

Parvathi: The mere mention of marriage or men triggers all those old memories for her. Alright... tell me, what else would the men there do?

Ramya: Once a week, they would throw a party there. I would be forced to perform an "item dance." Afterward—whether it was Moorthy or some other VIP—I would be served up to them for their pleasure. If I refused, they would drug me and forcibly send me to them.

Parvathi: But you haven't suffered any lasting physical harm because of that, dear. Even before you underwent your surgery and your body fully transformed into that of a woman, they had already begun to unleash their male perversion upon you.

Ramya: Even so, I’m still terrified of men, Akka.

Parvathi: Not all men are like that, dear. Why, you yourself were once a man who transformed into a woman, weren't you?

Ramya: But back there, every single man looked at me—perceiving me as a woman—with nothing but perverted intentions.

Parvathi: "That is precisely why you need to get married. If anyone were to look at you with ill intent or attempt to touch you, your husband would be right there to thrash them soundly."

Ramya: "So, you are saying that I need a good male companion?"

Parvathi: "Yes. Your life partner will take good care of you; don't you worry." Afterward, Parvathi recounted to Janani what Ramya had said.

Janani: "If she is telling others about this and feeling so deeply distressed, it is entirely because of me that her life has turned out this way!"—saying this, she embraced Ajay and wept.

The Woman that blossomed within a Man - 6

Ram: "No, Anita... he couldn't even bring himself to imagine me as a woman." Just then, he was seized by a sudden stomach pain; clutching his abdomen, he rushed to the bathroom. A short while later, he returned.

Anita: "Brother, what happened?"

Ram: "It's nothing. I frequently get these stomach pains, and when they occur, I experience some bleeding down there."

Janani: "Oh, you poor thing! Do you even realize what that is? Come inside right now," she said, leading him away.

Anita: "You men—all of you—stay outside!" she ordered, shooing them away.

Janani: "Ram, you are no longer a man; you are a woman. Your name is now Ramya. The stomach pain you are experiencing right now is menstruation—the monthly cycle that women go through."

Ramya: "What am I supposed to do about it?"

Janani: "Use a sanitary napkin until the pain subsides." Just then, Anita walked in.

Janani: "Hey, Anita... she mentioned that four or five men had raped her in the past, yet she is only just getting her period now."

Anita: "I suspect they were too hasty; they forced themselves on her before her body had fully developed into that of a woman following her surgery."

Janani: "In a way, that’s actually a good thing. Otherwise, she would likely be carrying a child in her womb right now."

Anita: "In that case... where was she staying after her surgery? How did she end up here? And from whom did your mother bring her home?"

Janani: "Well..." Anita: Ramya, did you regain consciousness at all after they injected you with that sedative? If you did, did you see anything?

Ramya: Whenever I regained consciousness, I could see a signboard with Telugu writing on it through the window there.

Anita: Did you see anything else?

Ramya: No.

Janani: Anita, Moorthy owns a private bungalow in Andhra Pradesh. All his late-night parties are held there; my mother mentioned it to me once.

Anita: Alright, Ramya, put on this sanitary pad now.

Janani: Did you give her a bra and panties?

Anita: No.

Janani: Okay, go to my suitcase, fetch a bra, panties, and a nightie set, and bring Parvathi along with you.

Anita: She retrieved the bra, panties, and nightie, and brought Parvathi back with her.

Janani: "Ramya, get up and come to the bathroom," she said, leading her away. Once inside, she told Ramya to take off her nightie and handed her the bra and panties, instructing her to put them on.

Ramya: She accepted them hesitantly and said, "Please step outside; I'll put them on and come out."

Janani: "We're women too, you know! Just put them on right here in front of us."

Ramya: She took off her nightie, put on the bra, and fastened the hooks at the back. First, she applied the cream; then Anita stepped in, applied the sanitary pad—demonstrating exactly how to place it—and finally helped her put on her panties.

Janani: "Now, take a look at yourself in the mirror," she said, holding it up for her.

Ramya: Blushing deeply, she covered her eyes with her hands.

Anita: "Look at the shyness of this 'new bride'!"

Janani: "That’s enough blushing for now; put on your nightie, you beautiful girl," she teased affectionately. Then, handing her a packet of sanitary pads, she added, "Here—if the one you're wearing gets soiled, just take a fresh one and change it."

Anita: "Parvathi, stay with her and look after her tonight. Tomorrow is an auspicious day; we can perform the ritual turmeric bath for her in the morning."

Parvathi: "Very well, Amma."

Janani: "We have to head back to our hometown tomorrow since our leave is over. Where are we going to have her stay?"

Anita: "Let her stay at our house."

Janani: "But what if she faces some danger there? It would be safer if she just stayed at *my* house instead."

Anita: "But what will happen if your mother finds out?"

Janani: "I intend to bring her into the house with my mother's full knowledge. I have a plan for that—it’s the only way to get her to reveal the truth about Ramya."

The Women that Blossomed within a Man - 5

The next day, after examining Ram, Anita said, "He is stable now; you may speak with him."

Janani: "Ram, do you recognize me?"

Ram: "I do, Janani."

Janani: "Good. What happened to you that day when you went missing?"

Ram: "Your father gave me 20 lakhs and asked me to invest it in the stock market. I took the money and was speaking with a stockbroker when Moorthy and his son arrived. They confronted me aggressively, demanding, 'Not only did you stop my son's wedding, but are you now trying to have both of us ousted from the company?'"

Ram: "I fought back in self-defense. During the scuffle, I struck Moorthy's son, and he collapsed to the ground, unconscious. A doctor arrived, examined him, and pronounced him dead. The police then arrived and took me into custody."

Ram: "While they were interrogating me, they offered me a glass of water. The moment I drank it, I lost consciousness. When I finally opened my eyes again, I found myself in a hospital. My entire body was racked with pain."

Ram: "Then Moorthy came to see me. He sneered, 'My son died because of you! You must pay for that crime by suffering for the rest of your life. Look at your body in the mirror!' When I looked, I saw that my body had been transformed into that of a woman."

Ram: "When I tried to push them aside and escape, they injected me with a sedative. After that, I have no recollection of what transpired; I could only vaguely perceive the intermittent surges of pain coursing through my body."

Janani: "Alright, Ram. You have now been transformed into a woman; you must accept and come to terms with that reality. From this moment on, stay with me; I will take care of you."

Ram: "Very well, Janani. However, I detest this female body. Is there absolutely no way for me to live as a man again?"

Anita: "There is no possibility of that, brother. It has been a very long time since the surgery was performed on you."

The Woman that blossomed within a Man - 4

The next morning, Anita arrived. "What is the matter? Who needs treatment?" she asked.

Janani pointed at Ram. "It is for him."

Anita observed him. "He doesn't look like a man to me; wearing a nightie, he looks just like a woman."

Janani asked, "Do you not recognize him? This is your brother, Ram."

Anita stepped closer and examined his face. Then, looking utterly stunned, she turned to Janani. "It really is my brother! Where has he been all this time? And why is he in this state now?"

Janani replied, "My mother has hired him to work in this house. I don't know why he ended up this way, and he hasn't said anything either. Just administer the treatment and cure him first; we can talk about the rest later."

Anita first took Ram's wrist to check his pulse. Then, retrieving an IV bag from the kit she had brought, she set up a drip for him. She administered two injections into the line, then drew a small sample of blood from his other arm and sealed it in a small glass vial. She called out, "Amuthan, come here. Take this blood sample to the lab, have it tested, and bring back the results."

As the IV fluid began to flow, Ram started to moan in his semi-conscious state. "Please... no... leave me alone!"

Anita stepped in and set up a second IV drip. Shortly thereafter, Ram drifted into a peaceful sleep.

Amuthan returned with the lab results and handed them to Anita.

Anita performed a thorough physical examination of Ram. Then, she summoned Janani, Ajay, and Amuthan to her side.

Anita began, "Janani..." "Someone performed surgery on my brother, transforming him into a woman. Before he could even realize what had happened, they drugged him and sexually assaulted him four or five times. Subsequently, they administered potent medications to suppress his emotions, effectively turning him into a puppet who would blindly obey their commands."

Ajay: "What do they stand to gain from this?"

Anita: "I don't know."

Janani: "Does your brother have any enemies?"

Anita: "We might find out if we ask his friends."

Janani: She called the friends of Ram whom she knew and asked them about the situation. One friend replied, "Ram doesn't have any enemies. However, back when he was working at your father's office, your father's business partner—Moorthy—and Moorthy's son committed some wrongdoing and embezzled company funds."

"Ram discovered this and reported it to your father; consequently, your father expelled both Moorthy and his son from the company."

Janani: (She paused for a moment, stunned.) "Did anything happen after that?"

Friend: "That is all Ram told me; I don't know anything else."

Janani: (Speaking to the others) "I am completely confused. Is the cause of his current condition my mother, or is it that man, Moorthy?"

Anita: "He should regain consciousness within another day. When he does, he will tell us himself. Just be patient until then, Janani."

Ram: The next morning, he opened his eyes and looked around; then, he called out to Anita, who was sitting nearby.

Anita: "Ram, how are you feeling? Do you recognize me?"

Ram: "Yes," he replied.

Anita: She asked Janani to bring some soup. "Janani," she added, "don't ask him any questions right now; he needs some rest."

Janani: She fed him the soup spoonful by spoonful, after which he settled down to rest.

The Women that Blossomed within a Man - 3

Janani: Then, one day, I received a phone call from my mother. She told me that Father had suffered a heart attack and had been admitted to the hospital. I rushed to the hospital to see him.

Janani: "Mom, what happened to Father? Why did he have a heart attack?"

Krishnavathi: "Your lover, Ram, is the sole reason for all of this. Your father gave him 20 lakhs to invest in the stock market. Instead of investing the money, Ram absconded with it. The moment your father discovered this betrayal, the shock triggered a heart attack."

Janani: I immediately tried calling Ram, but his phone was switched off. I went to his house to look for him; only his mother, Tulasi, and his younger sister, Anita, were there. When I asked about Ram, they told me he hadn't returned home for a whole day and that they had already filed a police complaint.

Janani: Subsequently, Father’s health deteriorated, and he passed away in the hospital. I eventually put Ram out of my mind and married Ajay—the man my mother had chosen for me.

Amuthan: "Wait—is Dr. Anita, the doctor currently treating our mother, *his* younger sister?"

Janani: "Yes. It was our mother who ensured Anita received an education and became a doctor; she didn't want Ram's family to suffer the consequences of his misdeeds. However, I had absolutely no idea that such a massive backstory lay behind it all."

Ajay: "Alright, so what do we do with him now?"

Janani: "Call Dr. Anita and ask her to come here. Let her provide him with medical treatment. Once he recovers enough to speak, we can ask him directly to find out exactly what happened to him."

Amuthan: "Okay, I'll call Dr. Anita right now," he said, and placed the call. "Hello? Is this Dr. Anita? This is Amuthan speaking."

Anita: "Tell me, Amuthan—what is the matter?"

Amuthan: "Where are you right now?"

Anita: "At the hospital."

Amuthan: "Could you please come to Kodaikanal...?" Amuthan: Could you come over? I urgently need someone to provide treatment right here at home.

Anita: When have I ever said no to you? I’ll arrange for a nurse to look after your mother, and then I’ll come over immediately.

Amuthan: Alright—but please don't tell Mom that I was the one who called you. "Don't mention this to anyone; this is a personal favor."

Anita: "Alright, Amuthan."

Janani: "Alright, Parvathi—did she say anything to you?"

Parvathi: "No, Amma."

Janani: "Good. Do not tell anyone on the outside—not even my mother—about the treatment currently being administered to him here."

Parvathi: "Understood, Amma."

Janani: "Ajay, Amuthan—both of you wait outside. I need to check his physical condition." She sent them out, and then...

Janani: "Ram, do you recognize me?" she asked.

Ram: He remained silent, offering no response.

Janani: She attempted to remove his shirt; however, he slapped her hand away, resisting her efforts. "Parvathi, hold his hands behind his back!" she instructed. Parvathi complied. Then, using a pair of scissors, Janani cut away his filthy shirt and trousers; upon seeing his body underneath, she was left in shock.

Janani: His entire body—covered in scratches and wounds—had transformed into that of a woman. He possessed beautiful female breasts, a slender, feminine waist, and below that, the distinct anatomy of a woman. "Bring him to the bathroom immediately," she ordered, and they led him away.

They washed his hair, lathered him with soap and shampoo, and gave him a thorough bath. Afterward, they applied medication to his wounds and dressed him in a nightgown.

Ram: He attempted to tear the garment off. Parvathi once again restrained his hands. Janani retrieved a sleeping pill, forced it into his mouth, and made him swallow it with water. Soon after, he drifted into sleep.

Janani: "Ajay, Amuthan—you can come inside now."

Ajay: "What happened? Why did it take so long? How is his physical condition? Did he say anything?"

Janani: "No, he didn't say a word. However, upon examining his body, one thing is painfully clear: he has been subjected to something truly horrific—both physically and psychologically."

The Woman That Blossomed within a Man - 2

Amuthan: "Who is this, Akka? Is he your college boyfriend? Does Uncle (Brother in Law)  know about him?"

Janani: "He does, dear. Look at his face and eyes—they don't bear any resemblance to that girl's face and eyes."

Amuthan: "You're right, Akka," he said. Just then, Parvathi walked in with coffee.

Parvathi: "Please have some coffee," she offered.

Janani: "Place it on the table. Now, answer what I’m about to ask you without hiding anything. Is the girl staying with you someone you know personally? Where is she from? How do you know her?"

Parvathi: (Looking at the three of them fearfully) "Amma... I will tell you the truth. But please, don't mention this to your mother, Krishnavathi Amma; otherwise, I’ll lose my job."

Ajay: "Don't worry. No one else but the three of us will know about this. Go ahead and tell us the truth boldly."

Parvathi: "It was your mother, Krishnavathi Amma herself, who brought that girl here three months ago and told me to keep her on as domestic help."

Amuthan: "But why does her face look so terrified—as if she’s frightened by something?"

Parvathi: "She was exactly like that when your mother first brought her here. She gets terrified whenever she sees a man. She always wears loose shirts to keep her body covered. She goes through the motions of eating and working completely devoid of emotion—just like a wind-up doll."

Janani: "Alright. Now, bring her here."

Parvathi: (She went and brought the girl in.)

Janani: (Lifting the girl's shirt to check her waist) "There was a large birthmark there." (She then embraced the girl and began to weep.)

Ajay and Amuthan: (Together, they comforted Janani and helped her sit down.)

Ajay: "Janani, who is this girl? Why have you become so emotional upon seeing her?" [Scene]

Janani: Ajay, remember how I told you that I fell in love with someone back when I was in college? Well, this is him—his name is Ram.

Amuthan: Is that so? But tell me, why has he ended up like this? And why did you two break up?

Janani: I don't know why he turned out this way, but I can certainly tell you the story of why we broke up. Ram and I fell in love while we were still studying in college.

Janani: One day, my father—Sivaram—and my mother—Krishnavathi—called me in. They told me that I had to marry their business partner, Moorthy’s, son.

Janani: When I asked them, "Why?"...

Sivaram: "We’ve suffered significant losses in our business shares. Moorthy has offered to take over the business entirely—and settle our debts—if we agree to marry you off to his son."

Janani: "Dad, I’m in love with someone else. I’m going to marry *him*—and no one else."

Sivaram: "Janani, I’m getting old, and the business is failing. If I marry you off to Moorthy’s son and then sell the business, my duties will be fulfilled. After that, once your younger brother finishes his studies and returns from abroad, he can take care of us."

Janani: "Dad, your only problem is with the business, right? You don't have to sell it. Just hand the business over to Ram and me for one month. We’ll restore it to its former glory and make it profitable again."

Sivaram: [Hesitantly] He agreed, though he did so half-heartedly and without much confidence.

Janani: I went to Ram and explained the situation to him; he readily agreed to help. Together, we went through all the business accounts and identified the specific areas where our company's products weren't selling well. We fixed those issues, and soon, our sales returned to their previous, profitable levels. Seeing this, my father was overjoyed; he abandoned his decision to sell the business and gave his full consent for me to marry Ram.

Janani, along with her husband Ajay and her younger brother Amuthan, was waiting at the airport for their flight to Delhi. Just then, Janani's phone rang.

Janani: She answered the call and then turned to Ajay, saying, "Ajay, the person who organized the business meeting we were planning to attend has cancelled it because he isn't feeling well."

Amuthan: "What should we do now? Should we just go back home?"

Ajay: "Our company is on a three-day holiday, so why don't we go somewhere and do some sightseeing?"

Janani: "I have an idea—let's go to Kodaikanal. We own a bungalow there; we can stay there, look around, and then head back."

Amuthan: "Shouldn't we tell Mom?"

Janani: "She isn't feeling well right now; don't say anything to her. Let her get some rest. Dr. Anita will look after her."

Janani: "I know the staff who work at our Kodaikanal bungalow; we can sort things out once we get there. Come on, let's go." With that, the three of them took a train to Kodaikanal. Upon arriving, they hired a taxi and headed to the bungalow. The watchman spotted them, saluted, and opened the gate.

Janani: She walked inside the compound and knocked on the door. A woman came and opened it. Janani observed her; she was wearing a soiled shirt and trousers, and her hair was tied back in a bun. Her face looked sorrowful, yet when Janani looked into her eyes, they seemed strangely familiar—like the eyes of someone she knew very well.

Parvathi: "Ramya, who is at the door?" she asked as she approached. She then looked at Janani and Amuthan. "Welcome, Madam; welcome, Sir! You’ve arrived so suddenly—without even making a single phone call!"

Janani: "Never mind that, Parvathi. Who is this?"

Parvathi: "She is the daughter of someone I know, Madam. I’ve hired her to help out with the housework."

Amuthan: "So, does she stay here on the premises?"

Parvathi: "Yes, Sir. Why don't you go and get some rest? I’ll make some coffee and bring it right over." The three of them then headed into the bedroom.

Ajay: "What is it, Janani? You seem to be deep in thought."

Janani: "You know that maidservant we saw at the entrance? I feel like I’ve seen her somewhere before."

Amuthan: "Maybe you saw her working somewhere at our company office?"

Janani: "No, it’s not that. Her face—especially her eyes—seem incredibly familiar to me."

Ajay: "In that case, she might be a girl you studied with back in school or college."

Janani: She immediately took out her mobile phone, opened her photo gallery, and began scanning through her graduation photos from both school and college. Yet, not a single girl's face or eyes in those pictures bore any resemblance to the young woman they had just met.

Amuthan: "Well, if you didn't find a match in the girls' section, why don't you check the boys' section to see if there are any girls listed there?"

Janani: Suddenly, as if struck by a sudden realization, she opened a specific personal app on her phone and pulled up a particular photograph. In it, she was pictured with a young man, her arm resting casually over his shoulder.
